Despite the pouring rain, Quinte Bassmasters Vice President Lee Leroux, lead the club’s ‘Pull for Kids’ team to a fourth place finish in Belleville Ontario. Considering that some of the competition included squads of correctional workers from the Quinte Detention Centre, and soldiers from the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, the fourth place finish was a remarkable accomplishment for a bunch of local bassers. The real winners of the day however, were children with lung related illnesses.

The Quinte BASS chapter contributed about $1000 toward the $30 000 goal of the fifth annual local event held by the Lung Association.  Club member Jamie Irwin said, “It was just like a rainy day tournament. When it’s raining nobody wants to be there in the morning, until the blast off, then the competitive spirt takes over and you get all psyched up”!

The Lung Association’s ‘Pull for Kids’ events raise funds for programs such as ‘Asthma Action’ which helps children and their care givers manage their asthma. Members raised funds by collecting pledges and pulling fire trucks across the parking lot of the Quinte Mall in front of dozens of onlookers and supporters. Leroux hopes to make this an annual event for the club.
