Members of the Quinte Bassmasters fishing club converged on the 11th Annual Quinte Sportsmen’s Boat and RV Show, March 13-15th, to host a children’s trout fishing pond. Club members stocked a large wading pool with about 150 rainbow trout for the three day event. The fish were purchased from a local trout farm and transported to the makeshift pond at the Quinte Sports Centre. The pond, a heavy duty wading pool, was donated by the Canadian Tire Store in Belleville and modified to sustain the fish by Club Vice President, Lee Leroux. Club members worked in shifts to run the very popular attraction. Time limits for the kids were very, very flexible. We wanted to raise some funds for club operations, but most of all we wanted to get kids excited about fishing and promote our kid’s fishing fun day event” said Randy Cronkwright, the chapter’s Youth Director.
The Quinte Sportsmen’s Show is the largest of its kind between Toronto and Ottawa and has grown in each of the eleven years since it began.
A portion of the funds raised with the trout pond will be used to support a no cost children’s shore fishing fun day event in Napanee on April 26th 2009. Supporters of the shore fishing event to date include: Carpentry Design, Canadian Tire, Pure Fishing, and Dave Mercer. For more information on supporting this children’s fishing event, or participation, contact the Quinte Bassmasters Youth Director: Randy Cronkwright at bassfishingrandy@sympatico.ca.
