Insurance policy for Federation members
One of the many benefits to being a member of the BASS Federation comes with the $1,000,000 liability insurance coverage those members receive. The policy is unique and has a variety of ways to benefit both the club and the individual members. Its coverage period runs from January 1st - December 31st (Yearly). To better help our members understand this policy, and for those of you who are interested in the Federation, lets take a few moments to evaluate this policy.
First of all, we will outline what the policy does not cover. The BASS Federation insurance coverage does not replace our members own boat liability insurance. However, this policy does include a non-owned boat liability coverage which will protect the insured with the exception of the boat owner. The boat owner's insurance will protect him or her. Remember, this insurance coverage in no way replaces your need to carry personal liability, boat liability or auto liability insurance.
Events in which an admission fee is charged are excluded from this policy (Entry fees are not considered admission charge.) For an additional charge we will be able to cover these events subject to the Underwriting Company's approval.
If a boat owner causes an accident and is sued for more than his boat liability coverage, this policy will not provide the difference.
There is no coverage for claims between members. All members are Named Insured by definition and claims between members are not covered. The members could look to their boat, homeowner or auto insurance for applicable coverage, if claim arises.
No coverage is provided to the non-member if they cause injury to a 3rd party (including members), but the members and the Federation is still protected for their actions or if the Federation Chapter is named in a suit. Non-members protection should come under their personal liability (homeowners, boat or auto policy) regarding injury or damage to personal property. There is no coverage to the Federation with respect to non-members' actions.
There is not a need to list all chapter events before they occur. This policy covers official events automatically without need for individual listings of these events. (Tournaments, CastingKids, meetings, charity events, ect.). Events should be documented in the minutes of the meeting.
So what does this $1,000,000 liability insurance cover? Well, it covers claims resulting from bodily injury and property damage to a third party. It will also cover $1,000,000 for each occurrence which results in a claim.
The policy will cover your chapter if you are serving food and/or alcohol. There is a host liquor liability coverage. That is, if you are not in the business of manufacturing, distributing, selling, serving or furnishing alcoholic beverages.
There is coverage for your club if you are participating in an outdoor show. If the outdoor show charges the club for booth space and then charges you general admission to get in, the club is covered for those events that might occur around your booth.
Coverage is afforded for an Open Tournament. Members (Insured) are covered for claims that may arise from the activities of a non-member. However, the non-member is not an insured and no coverage is afforded to the non-member.
All of this is great for your club, right?! So here's how you, as an individual receive benefits from this policy. In addition to the $1,000,000 club liability insurance coverage, for each member in good standing of that club and the BASS Federation, there is an additional $9,000 Accidental Death & Dismemberment policy. This is a standard AD&D policy and the coverage period runs from January 1st through December 31st (Yearly), 24 hour per day.
The exclusions for this coverage are suicide, disease, military service, and some air travel on private planes.
